This summer, Brooklyn Made Store and the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Brooklyn present Cancer & Community: The Journey Through Art—a powerful exhibition honoring those whose lives have been touched by cancer. Hosted at both Brooklyn Made locations—City Point and Industry City—this exhibition brings together the work of 12 Brooklyn-based artists who transform personal stories of illness, loss, healing, and strength into compelling visual art.

From photography and woodblock prints to ceramics, sculpture, and mixed media, each piece reveals the emotional layers of cancer’s impact—whether through the eyes of survivors, caregivers, or those mourning a loved one.

Featured Artists:

  • Kylie Brown (Flatbush) – Watercolor tributes to personal and community landmarks touched by grief
  • Alicia Degener (South Brooklyn) – Painter and Parsons alum capturing beloved Brooklyn landmarks; her work includes coasters and original paintings that reflect the beauty of Coney Island, brownstones, bridges, and more
  • Ellie d’Eustachio (Flatbush) – Whimsical textile street art with emotional and communal roots
  • Rachel Goldsmith (Brooklyn Heights) – Sculptural paintings and bioplastic art embracing imperfection and wonder
  • Julia Kirtley (Crown Heights) – Reflective mixed media cityscapes born from a healing journey
  • Benjamin Lindsay (Crown Heights) – Hand-carved woodblock prints celebrating memory and place
  • Gabrielle Napolitano (Park Slope) – Curator; daughter of a celebrated art director and photographer who lost his battle with prostate cancer at age 58
  • Elyse Neiman Seiter (Carroll Gardens) – Handmade ceramics and shibori-dyed garments inspired by creative rebirth
  • Jon Rossi & Patricia (Fort Greene) – Upcycled candles born from love, loss, and shared resilience
  • Claire J Saintil (Midwood) – Intimate photographic vignettes of Brooklyn life and loss
  • Vicky Xu (Williamsburg) – Vibrant mixed media illustrations honoring joy, energy, and community

This exhibition invites viewers into a shared space of remembrance, resilience, and artistic expression. Many of the works are available for purchase, with affordable handmade pieces that make art more accessible and personal. Join us in honoring the strength and stories woven into the fabric of our Brooklyn community.
